The Community

Santo Domingo is a town of about 500,000 people situated between the coastal and highlands regions of Ecuador. Poverty in the area has led to poor health outcomes, including an acute increase in drug use, teen suicides, and teen pregnancy rates.Hombro a Hombro is a non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to improving the health and education of Ecuadorians. There are approximately 50,000 potential patients in the surrounding areas, but Hombro a Hombro can only serve 10,000 patients.EWB-GT is collaborating with Hombro a Hombro to expand the clinic’s infrastructure to improve healthcare outcomes in the community of Santo Domingo.

The Project

The Revit designs below depict the selected design based upon data collected during our Assessment Trip to Ecuador in 2022. Our team is designing a single-story building located in the northeast region of the property. The space will be separated into a new kitchen and children's waiting space. The kitchen will be used for the staff's meals and for hosting health-related workshops to improve nutrition. The children's waiting space will include access to tables, chairs, a games/books to keep children safe and occupied while adults are treated.
